[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] Namwon City, Jeonbuk, announced on the 25th that it held an academic conference on the 23rd in collaboration with the Korean Architectural History Society under the theme "Achievements and Tasks of the Manboksa Site Investigation."
This academic conference was organized to verify the relics and ruins of the Manboksa site, which holds high historical value in the region, and to establish the identity of the Manboksa site.
Starting with a keynote presentation on "Achievements and Tasks of the Manboksa Site Excavation," the conference proceeded with in-depth presentations and discussions on the architectural historical review of the Manboksa site, the artifacts unearthed there and their value, and the Manboksa site’s relation to Buddhist art.
At the event, presenters and discussants summarized the academic research achievements on the Manboksa site through profound opinions, discussed the historical clarification of the Manboksa site, efficient maintenance and utilization plans, and reexamined its cultural heritage value.
Based on the opinions gathered at this academic conference, the city plans to strive for systematic cultural heritage preservation management and utilization by increasing interest and research on the Manboksa site.
Additionally, to match the status and reputation of the Manboksa site, the city intends to clarify its historical significance through additional excavation surveys and develop it into a place of historical awareness that can enhance citizens’ pride.
Meanwhile, the Manboksa site was a temple of high status in the past, and its ruins are designated as Historic Site No. 349.
In particular, the cultural assets currently existing within the temple grounds, such as Treasure No. 43, the Stone Seated Buddha Statue of the Manboksa Site, and the unearthed artifacts, are known to have very high value.
However, despite more than ten excavation surveys since the 1980s, the exact period of establishment and the process of reconstruction remain unclear, and only the final temple has been confirmed, necessitating follow-up measures accordingly.
