[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] A total of 204,000 people applied for the '2nd Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund' project aimed at stabilizing the livelihoods of workers in special employment types (SETs) and freelancers.

On the 24th, the Ministry of Employment and Labor announced that as of the deadline the day before for applications for the support fund, which is provided to SETs and freelancers whose income decreased in August and September due to the resurgence of COVID-19, 204,000 applications had been received.

Applicants for the 2nd Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund will undergo screening based on ▲ eligibility criteria ▲ income reduction requirements ▲ participation in similar projects, among other factors.

If the requirements are met, a lump sum payment of 1.5 million KRW will be made preferably within November.

The initial budget for the 2nd Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund was sufficient to support 200,000 people. If the number of applicants exceeds the budget, support will be prioritized comprehensively considering annual income, the scale of income reduction, and the rate of income decrease.

Lee Jeong-han, Director of Employment Service Policy at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, stated, "Economic difficulties continue for SETs and freelancers who are in the blind spots of employment insurance due to COVID-19," adding, "We hope the 2nd Emergency Employment Stability Support Fund can provide at least some help."

He continued, "We will promptly review the submitted applications to ensure that necessary support is provided without any setbacks."
