[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Former Liberty Korea Party leader Hong Joon-pyo urged Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol to resign, saying, "There has never been a prosecutor general as political as him in history."
On the 24th, former leader Hong said on Facebook, "There has never been a prosecutor general as political as Yoon Seok-yeol. Probably, there will never be one in the future."
He pointed out, "During the National Assembly Judiciary Committee hearing, Prosecutor General Yoon revealed Minister of Justice Park Sang-ki's plea for leniency in the Cho Kuk case, flaunting as if the prosecutor general was superior to the Minister of Justice at that time. He also involved President Moon Jae-in and an unofficial line, showing determination to hold onto his position. Politically, this might be a clever defensive move implying that if I am attacked further, I can reveal more, but this could also be a wrong choice leading Yoon to his own downfall."
He added, "He should stop clinging to the prosecutor general position and throw it away like a man. With that level of political skill, he could easily succeed in Yeouido politics. We will serve him well, so come into politics."
Former leader Hong said, "That is the way for Prosecutor General Yoon to finish his public service with dignity," and "Yoon and the Moon administration have now crossed the Rubicon River. From now on, no one from the Moon administration will have any dialogue with Yoon."
On the previous day, Hong also urged Yoon to resign via Facebook, saying, "Resign and come into politics with dignity." On the 22nd, he sent a warning shot at Yoon, who is emerging as a right-wing presidential candidate, through Facebook, saying, "It is a shameless farce to talk about a right-wing presidential candidate who treated us so harshly and cruelly."
