Jung Young-chae, CEO of NH Investment & Securities, is responding to questions from lawmakers during the comprehensive audit of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and related agencies at the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on the morning of the 23rd. [Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] The audit was abruptly halted after it was later revealed that a witness who attended the National Assembly’s state audit had come into contact with a confirmed case of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
The state audit of the Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock, Food, and Maritime Affairs Committee held at the National Assembly on the 23rd began at 10 a.m. After two recesses, it resumed around 4 p.m. but was recessed again after about 1 hour and 15 minutes. During the break, it was reported that Jung Young-chae, CEO of NH Investment & Securities, who had attended as an institutional witness in the morning, had come into contact with a COVID-19 confirmed patient.
The standing committee decided to suspend the audit without concluding it. Until the test results of CEO Jung are released, all ruling and opposition party lawmakers who were present in the audit room at the same time are reportedly waiting in quarantine in a meeting room on the 5th floor of the National Assembly. The test results are expected to be announced around 9 p.m.
CEO Jung did not return to the audit room after finishing his morning questioning. In the late afternoon, upon being notified that he was subject to a COVID-19 test, he immediately went to a public health center to get tested. The audit on this day was a comprehensive review targeting the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and its major affiliated agencies, attended by 20 ruling and opposition lawmakers including Committee Chairman Lee Gae-ho and Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Kim Hyun-soo.
