Jeonnam Province Launches Epidemiological Investigation into Deaths Related to Influenza Vaccination

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Province has reported 4 deaths as of 10 a.m. on the 23rd following influenza (flu) vaccination and has launched an epidemiological investigation to determine the causal relationship.

According to Jeonnam Province, most of the deceased were elderly aged 70 or older and were confirmed to have underlying health conditions. No adverse reactions were observed while waiting at the medical institution after vaccination, and they returned home.

The health centers of the respective cities and counties are investigating whether there were any adverse reactions in cases where the 4 deceased received vaccinations with the same batch number at the medical institutions. So far, no cases of adverse symptoms have been reported.

The province has dispatched epidemiologists to investigate the correlation between the deaths and the vaccinations, stating that it is not yet at a stage to conclude that the influenza vaccine was the direct cause of death.

The causal relationship between death and vaccination will be finally determined by the Vaccination Damage Investigation Committee of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency based on epidemiological investigation data.
