Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok Promises Active Development of 'Women-Friendly Agricultural Policies'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, has promised to actively discover ‘women-friendly agricultural policy measures.’

According to Jeonnam Province on the 23rd, Governor Kim met with executives of the Korea Women Farmers Jeonnam Federation to discuss agricultural policy issues in the Jeonnam region.

At this meeting, Governor Kim expressed his intention to discover various women-friendly agricultural policy measures for women farmers and to expand them.

The meeting was attended by Kim Nong-seon, President of the Korea Women Farmers Jeonnam Federation, and executives, where they broadly exchanged opinions on the role of women farmers and ways to revitalize women-friendly agricultural policies.

Established in 2002, the Korea Women Farmers Jeonnam Federation consists of about 4,000 members, including successor women farmers and wives of successor farmers.

In addition to various activities to protect the rights and improve the welfare of women farmers, the federation carries out various projects such as leadership training education as agricultural managers, urban-rural exchange cooperation projects, and traditional culture succession and preservation projects.

Additionally, in August, they visited Gurye-gun, which suffered significant damage from heavy rain, delivering condolence supplies worth about 10 million won, including 200 blankets and 3,000 pairs of coated gloves, and also engaged in volunteer work for emergency restoration.

Kim Nong-seon, President of the Korea Women Farmers Jeonnam Federation, said, “Support projects promoted by Jeonnam Province, such as the Happiness Voucher and agricultural product packages for pregnant women, have received positive responses from women farmers,” adding, “We ask that you continue to prepare various women farmer-friendly policies and take the lead in protecting the rights of women farmers.”

Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeonnam said, “Women farmers play a prominent role across all areas of agriculture, from traditional food manufacturing and processing to sales and rural experiences, serving as a central figure in rural areas,” and stated, “We will discover and expand various women-friendly agricultural policy measures so that women farmers can realize sustainable agriculture as proud agents of agriculture.”

Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province has continuously expanded women-friendly agricultural policies, increasing the Happiness Voucher for cultural activities of women farmers in rural areas with poor cultural conditions from an initial 100,000 won to 200,000 won last year, and supporting 4,000 multipurpose small electric carriers by 2022 to provide convenience in farm work.

Along with this, various projects are underway, including support for village communal meals during busy farming seasons, farm helpers, mobile multipurpose workstations, women-friendly agricultural machinery rental projects, pilot projects for eco-friendly agricultural product packages for pregnant women, and small-scale entrepreneurship support for farmers.
