Assemblyman Lee Kyung-ho Proposes 'Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Remote Class Support Ordinance' as Lead Sponsor

"An Opportunity to Secure the Right to Education, Prevent Class Loss, and Establish a Foundation for Future Education"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Seon-gang] The "Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education Remote Class Support Ordinance," proposed by Gwangju Metropolitan Council member Lee Kyung-ho (Education and Culture Committee, Buk-gu 2), passed the Education and Culture Committee review on the 23rd.

According to the ordinance, the Superintendent of Education must establish and implement a basic plan that includes goals and promotion directions for effective support of remote classes, infrastructure construction, research and development of curricula and learning methods, teacher capacity enhancement, operation status surveys, and evaluations.

It also stipulates the operation of a remote class monitoring group to actively collect opinions from teachers, students, and parents.

In particular, the ordinance includes provisions to prepare separate support measures to ensure that vulnerable groups such as low-income, multicultural, multiple-child, and disabled students do not face difficulties in remote classes.

Council member Lee Kyung-ho said, "The ordinance was proposed to resolve the confusion and concerns caused by the introduction of remote classes due to COVID-19," adding, "If the ordinance passes, it will secure the educational rights of students in the Gwangju area, prevent class losses, enable more efficient remote class operations, and serve as a foundation for future education."

Meanwhile, the ordinance, having passed the Education and Culture Committee review, is scheduled for final approval at the plenary session on the 27th.
