[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province will supply 'Narka,' the first parking robot developed domestically, to the smart robot parking lot in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon.
According to the city on the 23rd, Maro Robot Tech Co., Ltd., the developer of Narka, recently won a bid for the 'Bupyeong-gu Smart Parking Robot Project' and signed a supply contract worth approximately 1.7 billion KRW.
According to the contract, a smart parking robot parking lot based on a VPN (Virtual Private Network) linked with a smart service platform will be established underground at Gulpo Food Town, aiming for completion in July next year.
Narka, also known as the 'Parking Solver,' is a parking robot that ensures parking convenience and improves parking space efficiency by more than 30%. To solve parking problems in the old downtown area and revitalize the local robot industry, a consortium led by Bucheon City and Maro Robot Tech, a logistics robot specialist company, has been collaborating to develop Narka since last year.
On the 19th, Bucheon City's smart parking robot service passed the demonstration exemption review at the 4th Industrial Convergence Regulation Special Committee of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, significantly lowering commercialization barriers through temporary regulatory relief. This laid the foundation for full-scale promotion of the smart parking robot service.
Bucheon City also has a positive outlook on the synergy effect that the first application case in the neighboring city of Bupyeong-gu will have on the public commercialization of parking robots. On the 21st, a demonstration event was held with Bupyeong-gu officials in attendance, showing strong interest from other local governments in Narka.
The city plans to develop the parking robot into a landmark in the smart city parking sector, further enhancing Bucheon's brand image.
Additionally, in June, the city attracted the 'Core Robot Technology Development Project (Phase 2 Parking Robot Development Project)' and plans to develop a pallet-free parking robot by 2022. This is expected to advance parking robot technology and accelerate the parking robot business by responding to diverse parking demands.
A Bucheon City official stated, "Although the development of the parking robot Narka is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year, interest from other local governments is very high," and added, "We expect to fully commercialize the parking robot targeting public and private sectors promoting smart city projects domestically."
