[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] SMAC announced that it will participate in ‘KIMES BUSAN 2020,’ held from the 23rd to the 25th at BEXCO Exhibition Center 2 in Busan. At this exhibition, the company will showcase medical devices and K-quarantine equipment, including a medical robotic couch as a medical device and automated mask production equipment for K-quarantine.
SMAC’s automated mask production equipment is known to be fully automated. It can produce not only KF94 masks but also dental masks. One production line can manufacture up to 80 masks per minute. To achieve high productivity, the equipment is configured in a modular form, focusing on stabilization.
According to the company, to ensure worker safety and prevent defects caused by mask contamination, a mask equipment cover system (Enclosure for mask manufacturing system) has been applied. Additionally, an automatic packing system (Automation packing system) can be added for rapid product shipment after mask production is completed.
The medical robotic couch product was developed to realize various treatment postures for a proton therapy system designed for cancer treatment. It is an auxiliary robot that transports the patient’s cancer cell area to the optimal position of the proton beam. Currently, it is supplied to the Korea Southeast Nuclear Medicine Institute and the Shanghai Institute of Physics in China, contributing to cancer treatment research.
Recently, due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), the mask market size has been continuously growing. According to Grand View Research, as of the first quarter of this year, the global disposable mask market size is $74.9 billion (approximately 88 trillion KRW), and it is expected to grow at an average annual rate of over 50% until 2027.
A company official stated, “Through this exhibition, we expect to expand sales related to medical devices and quarantine by showcasing equipment based on our accumulated robotic technology and differentiated automation equipment technology.”
