[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] On the 22nd, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 23rd that Xing Haiming, the Chinese Ambassador to Korea, held a meeting with Myung Hyun-gwan, the governor of Haenam-gun, and discussed ways to expand exchange and cooperation with China.

This visit by Ambassador Xing was a reciprocal visit following Governor Myung Hyun-gwan's visit to the Chinese Embassy in August, reflecting the intention to establish a new foundation for exchange and cooperation with China, Korea's largest trading partner.

Governor Myung Hyun-gwan expressed his gratitude for the visit, saying, "Taking this opportunity of Ambassador Xing's visit, we expect it to be a turning point that not only opens the way for Haenam agricultural products to enter the Chinese market but also opens a new chapter in exchange and cooperation with China, seeking a path of mutual prosperity."

In response, Ambassador Xing said, "China and Korea, which have shared historical, political, and economic relations for thousands of years, are creating a global model in overcoming COVID-19," adding, "Meeting Governor Myung Hyun-gwan today in the meaningful place called Ttangkkeut (Land's End) will create a new opportunity for development after overcoming COVID-19 together."

Ambassador Xing plans to tour major tourist sites such as Haenam Gosan Yun Seon-do Historic Site and Daeheungsa Temple, as well as key investment attraction sites in Haenam, including the Osiano enterprise city, during his 1-night, 2-day visit.

At the rice export ceremony held on the 22nd, Ambassador Xing, along with Zhang Chenggang (張承剛), Consul General in Gwangju, officials from the Chinese Embassy, representatives from the Korea-China Economic, Cultural and Educational Association, and CCIC export agency CEO Wei Kaiguo attended, showing great interest in Haenam rice exports.

Haenam-gun will export 'Eco-friendly GABA rice,' a functional rice cultivated in a specialized processed export rice cultivation complex, to China for the first time this year.

The Eco-friendly GABA rice from Ttangkkeut Hwangto Eco-friendly Farming Corporation is the highest-grade rice, the first in Korea to receive China's national organic certification (CQC), and is planned to export a total of 30 tons this year under the brand name Gwanhaemi (觀海米).

At the ceremony, Ambassador Xing quoted from the Chinese historical record Shiji, "Min yi shi wei tian" (民以食爲天: People regard food as heaven), and congratulated, saying, "I am confident that delicious Haenam rice, made with pristine nature and advanced technology, will be greatly loved by Chinese consumers."

In particular, Ambassador Xing personally visited the Solarsido enterprise city construction site and said, "China is the only country to achieve positive GDP growth this year, and Korea has also achieved great results in economic measures through effective COVID-19 control," adding, "As China's external imports are expected to continue expanding after COVID-19, it is expected to be a great boon for Korea, including Haenam."

He continued, "At this critical time, I hope that China and Korea seize the opportunity and grow together anew after COVID-19, and I want to help activate Chinese tourism and attract investment."

Governor Myung Hyun-gwan of Haenam said, "It was a meaningful occasion where China, Korea, and Ttangkkeut Haenam met in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era," and added, "We will work together to make this occasion a foothold for future economic and cultural exchanges with China."

Meanwhile, Haenam-gun aims to attract attention to its infinite development potential through active investment briefings on the 'Solarsido enterprise city,' recognized as the optimal site for Korea's New Deal policy for operating the largest solar power plant in Korea and building an energy self-sufficient future city, as well as the Osiano tourist complex, located at the shortest distance from Jeju Island.
