Namwon-si Holds 'Waste Mobile Phone Collection Event' to Unearth Urban Mines

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Nosik] As the urban mining project is spreading nationwide, Namwon City is conducting a 'Used Cell Phone Collection' event to create a green Namwon as part of urban mine excavation.

According to the city, the urban mining project refers to mining minerals in the middle of the city, a new type of business that recovers and recycles rare metal resources such as gold, silver, and copper from 32 types of discarded electronic products including cell phones and PCs.

Also, for one week starting from the 23rd, if you submit unused cell phones, batteries, chargers, etc. at the booth installed in front of the Jungang Heights Apartment management office, various souvenirs such as 'UV toothbrush sterilizers' will be given.

In particular, valuable metal mineral resources will be extracted and reused from the collected discarded cell phones, and the profits generated in the future will be donated to support vulnerable groups.

Kim Sunja, head of the Environment Department, said, "While 5g of gold can be obtained from mining 1 ton at a gold mine, 400g of gold can be obtained from 1 ton of discarded cell phones, making it 4 to 80 times more resource-efficient than existing gold mines," and urged, "We hope Namwon citizens actively participate in the urban mine excavation project."
