18 New COVID-19 Cases Yesterday in Seoul Including Sports Centers and Nursing Homes... 3 Additional Deaths Reported


[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] As additional infections occurred in swimming pools, hospitals, and nursing homes, the number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in Seoul increased by 18 yesterday.


As of midnight on the 22nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul increased by 18 from the previous day, bringing the total cumulative confirmed cases to 5,748.


Among the new confirmed cases, 12 were classified as cluster infections, 2 were cases of contact with confirmed patients, and 4 are still under investigation for their infection routes.


On this day, 5 additional confirmed cases were reported among users of the Sammos Porex swimming pool in Gwanak-gu, increasing the related confirmed cases to a total of 7. Additionally, 4 more cases were confirmed related to a acquaintances' gathering in Gangnam-Seocho, bringing the total related confirmed cases to 19, of which 18 reside in Seoul.


One more confirmed case was added each to the cumulative totals related to Dana Hospital in Dobong-gu (68 cases), Yemaru Daycare Center (34 cases), and CJ Telenix in Gangnam-gu (including Jamun Medical Devices, totaling 26 cases).


In Seoul, a patient in their 90s who had tested positive for COVID-19 on the 20th and was undergoing isolation treatment passed away. On the 21st, two more patients in their 60s and 80s with underlying conditions died, resulting in three deaths over two days.


The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that it has expanded proactive testing for high-risk facilities where many confirmed cases have recently occurred. Since the 19th, sequential proactive testing has been conducted for about 44,000 workers and users at a total of 1,200 facilities, including nursing hospitals, nursing homes, daycare centers, psychiatric medical institutions, psychiatric nursing facilities, and psychiatric rehabilitation facilities.


Meanwhile, in Seoul, 5,283 people have been declared fully recovered and discharged, and 391 are currently receiving isolation treatment.
