Statistics Korea to Launch 'News-Based Statistical Search Service' Starting on the 22nd
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Statistics Korea announced that it will provide the "News-Based Statistical Search Service" using news big data starting from the 22nd.
The news-based statistical search service offers keyword analysis results related to the economy and the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors based on news big data collected online. Additionally, statistical data related to these keywords can be searched through statistical services such as the Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS), Microdata Integrated Service (MDIS), and Statistical Geographic Information Service (SGIS).
Statistics Korea collects news related to the economic field and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, performs morphological analysis and network analysis of keywords, and then provides refined keyword analysis results weekly by utilizing a sector-specific terminology dictionary developed in-house.
When users click on news keywords derived from the news big data analysis, the service automatically links and provides search results of related statistical data available through national statistical portal sites.
For example, last week in the economic sector, it was identified that COVID-19, employment, real estate, and artificial intelligence (AI) were key issues. In the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, keywords such as baechu (Korean cabbage), ginseng, Hanwoo (Korean beef), and potatoes were frequently mentioned in the news.
Statistics Korea stated, "We conducted compatibility tests across various mobile devices on the Mobile Testbed to ensure that the news-based statistical search service can be used regardless of smartphone model," and added, "We will continue to strive to meet public demand and contribute to timely national policy formulation through the development of statistics and services utilizing big data."
