[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] The KOSPI closed higher for the third consecutive trading day, recovering to the 2370 level, driven by net purchases from institutional and foreign investors. The KOSDAQ index also showed a recovery for the second consecutive day, closing at the 830 level.
On the 21st, the KOSPI started higher and maintained a steady gain of around 0.5% throughout the session, closing at 2370.86, up 12.45 points (0.53%) from the previous day.
Looking at trading trends by participant, institutions and individual investors net bought 114.7 billion KRW and 7.4 billion KRW respectively, while foreign investors net sold 131.7 billion KRW.
By sector, electric and gas utilities (3.98%), machinery (2.27%), and securities (2.08%) rose, while transportation equipment (-1.42%) and electrical and electronics (-0.18%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, NAVER (2.59%), SK Telecom (2.15%), Samsung C&T (1.46%), and Samsung Biologics (0.88%) rose, whereas Kia Motors (-2.99%), Hyundai Mobis (-2.53%), SK Hynix (-1.64%), Hyundai Motor (1.19%), and LG Chem (-0.64%) fell.
On the day, 675 stocks rose in the KOSPI market, including 7 stocks hitting the upper price limit, while 183 stocks declined with no stocks hitting the lower price limit. 54 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also rose for the second consecutive day. Although it started lower early in the session, it turned positive around 10:30 AM and maintained a gain of about 0.5%, closing at 830.67, up 6.02 points (0.73%) from the previous day.
By trading participant, individual and institutional investors net bought 95.8 billion KRW and 1.3 billion KRW respectively, while foreign investors net sold 72.5 billion KRW.
By sector, transportation equipment and parts (3.28%), non-metallic minerals (2.14%), and construction (1.98%) rose, while publishing and media reproduction (-1.85%), other manufacturing (-0.67%), and paper and wood (-0.66%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, HLB (7.03%), Hugel (5.72%), Kakao Games (4.25%), SK Materials (2.43%), and MedPacto (1.10%) rose, while Pearl Abyss (-3.55%), Genexine (-2.60%), and EcoPro BM (-1.17%) fell.
In the KOSDAQ market on the day, 866 stocks rose, including 2 stocks hitting the upper price limit, while 400 stocks declined with no stocks hitting the lower price limit. 96 stocks remained unchanged.
