Under an unusually high and clear sky, with a cool breeze blowing, the autumn camping season has officially begun. However, unlike previous years, a new camping trend has emerged due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing social distancing measures.
This trend is called ‘home camping,’ which is not camping outdoors but enjoying camping in the living room, rooftop, balcony, or similar spaces. Although it takes place inside the house, it has the advantage of creating a camping atmosphere as if you were outdoors, unaffected by the season, weather, or COVID-19. For this reason, home camping is especially popular in households with children, and as going out becomes difficult, more people are trying home camping to find new and unique ways to enjoy themselves indoors.
Meanwhile, an essential part of camping is food. Setting up a camping meal on a camping table and eating it evokes a strong sense of the outdoor camping experience.
Accordingly, interest in recipes related to ‘camping cuisine’ is increasing, and recently, more netizens are searching for ‘camping recipes’ on social media and YouTube that can be easily enjoyed at home.
In this regard, culinary researcher Lee Mi-kyung stated, “These days, ‘camping,’ including home camping, is the trend. Adding milk to camping dishes not only supplements the lacking nutrients of other ingredients but also adds a nutty flavor and creaminess, making the dishes even more delicious.”
In line with this trend, the Milk Promotion Committee has introduced two easy-to-follow ‘milk recipes suitable for home camping’ that anyone can make at home.
The ingredients for the perfect home camping dish, ‘Milk Dumpling Stew,’ are 400ml of milk, various vegetables, dumplings, and a pinch of salt and pepper. To prepare, chop your favorite vegetables or any leftover vegetables in the refrigerator. Then stir-fry the vegetables in oil. When the vegetable aroma rises, pour in the milk. Before the milk boils, add the dumplings and simmer until the dumplings are cooked. Season with salt and pepper to finish.
The ingredients for the ultra-simple ‘Milk Chicken Porridge’ that soothes an upset stomach are 400ml of milk, green onions, and store-bought chicken porridge. To make it, pour milk into a pot and add the chicken porridge before it boils. Stir well once it starts boiling. Add chopped green onions to complete the dish.
