Geochang County Governor Inspects Opening Site of Geochang Y-Shaped Suspension Bridge

Preparations Underway for Suspension Bridge Opening Ceremony at 2 PM on the 24th

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] On the 21st, the mayor of Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam, visited the Gajo-myeon area of Geochang-gun to inspect the safety of facilities in preparation for the opening of the Geochang Y-shaped Suspension Bridge and to check wellness tourism programs.

The inspection was attended by about 10 people including Mayor Gu In-mo, the Director of the Economic and Industrial Bureau, and staff from the Forestry Department. It was conducted to prepare for the opening ceremony of the suspension bridge and to improve and supplement any inconveniences on site in anticipation of a surge in tourists after the opening.

The Geochang Y-shaped Suspension Bridge was originally scheduled to hold its opening ceremony in May this year alongside a nationwide hiking competition, but it was postponed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19). Following public opinion favoring the opening and the government's transition to social distancing level 1, the opening ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the 24th.

To accommodate tourists, the county has established parking lots in the Gajo-myeon area (45 bus spaces, 110 passenger car spaces) and a deck road for access (840m access road). Additionally, from the 22nd, a shuttle bus will operate from the parking lot in the township to the Anti-Aging Healing Land.

Mayor Gu In-mo of Geochang-gun said, “Starting with the opening of the Geochang Y-shaped Suspension Bridge, we expect many tourists to flock to the county,” and added, “I hope that efforts will be made to manage and operate Healing Land with utmost care by supplementing the site to ensure visitor safety and convenience.”

Meanwhile, the Geochang Anti-Aging Healing Land project, planned since 2014, is an ongoing project with a total investment of about 27 billion won (progress rate 90%). With the completion of the native plant garden and accommodation facilities scheduled for May next year, the entire project is set for full completion and official opening.
