Support for 13 Types of Resident Registration Certificates and Extracts... Expansion to Over 100 Types Within the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] SK Telecom announced on the 21st that it will launch an electronic document wallet service that issues and distributes electronic certificates through the decentralized identity verification (DID) application 'Initial'.
The Initial electronic document wallet service was developed as part of a business agreement signed last month between SK Telecom and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to promote the use of the electronic certificate issuance and distribution system. The government-operated Government24 platform and the Initial app were linked to be accessible on smartphones.
Based on this app, public certificates that were previously issued on paper, such as resident registration certificate, health insurance qualification certificate, and immigration status certificate, can now be submitted and verified via mobile. When issuing public certificates through the Government24 app, if users choose to receive them via the electronic document wallet, the certificates can be viewed in the Initial app. These can then be submitted in electronic document form to public institutions, financial institutions, and private companies.
Currently, 13 types of certificates, including resident registration certificates (and their copies), can be issued through the electronic document wallet service. By the end of the year, the service plans to expand support to about 100 types by adding certificates issued by the National Health Insurance Service and the National Tax Service.
Oh Se-hyun, Head of Blockchain/Authentication Business Division at SK Telecom, said, "As society rapidly shifts to non-face-to-face interactions, innovation is needed in the submission and processing of public certificates, which have been paper-based and manual. We will continue to ensure that customers can use safe and convenient services through DID technology."
