Gwanak-gu Dorimcheon Brand Naming 'Byeolbitnaerimcheon'

Gwanak-gu Dorimcheon Brand Naming 'Byeolbitnaerimcheon'


[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dorimcheon, a precious natural resource and a representative healing space in Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee), will be reborn under the name 'Byeolbitnaerincheon' (Starlit Stream).


During the 7th term of the Gwanak-gu administration, a total of nine specialized projects for Byeolbitnaerincheon (Gwanak-gu Dorimcheon) are underway, including ▲restoration of Byeolbitnaerincheon and creation of water-friendly spaces ▲creation of Green Scenery Road ▲installation of Gwancheon-ro platform ▲ecological landscape improvement ▲bridge landscape improvement ▲creation of walking trails.


With a total investment of 43.3 billion KRW, the completion of the 'Byeolbitnaerincheon Special Project' will complete an ecological axis extending from Gwanaksan Mountain to the Han River, restoring naturalness and creating a leisure space for residents where clear water and green forests coexist.


Accordingly, the district has derived core values to enhance and brand the image suitable for the newly reborn Gwanak-gu Dorimcheon as ▲Dorimcheon dreaming to be Seoul's new landmark ▲a cultural space Dorimcheon created together (Together) by everyone ▲a special (Special) Dorimcheon that is renewed every day.


Also, under the concept of 'Creating a new Dorimcheon together, realizing Gwanak-gu's dream,' the district developed a brand naming and BI separately from the river name for the first time in Seoul.


Based on preliminary image surveys, local resources, and environmental analysis of Dorimcheon, the naming candidates were revised and supplemented through four rounds, selecting six naming candidates and three BI candidates, followed by online surveys of 500 Seoul citizens and Gwanak-gu residents and on-site surveys of Dorimcheon users.


Furthermore, to build sufficient consensus with local residents for BI selection, resident surveys were conducted at eight nearby community centers of Byeolbitnaerincheon, and additional on-site surveys were carried out at high foot traffic locations such as Sillim Station, Seoul National University Station, and Sharosugil.


Reflecting diverse resident opinions, the final brand name for Dorimcheon was decided as 'Byeolbitnaerincheon.' This name signifies a stream full of joy like countless stars in the sky through specialized projects such as media glass, cultural platforms, and Green Scenery Road, and expresses the image of falling stars from the birth legend of General Gang Gamchan, the urban brand of Gwanak-gu.


Also, the Dorimcheon BI combines the consonant 'ㅊ' from 'Byeolbitnaerincheon' and the shape of a star, representing General Gang Gamchan's birth legend as well as the nature and diverse pleasures of Dorimcheon.


The new brand name (Byeolbitnaerincheon) and BI of Gwanak-gu Dorimcheon are expected to convey the image of a beautiful Dorimcheon full of fun like starlight to citizens, promote regional development through enhancing local image, and strengthen Gwanak-gu's representative historical asset, the Gang Gamchan urban brand.


Mayor Park Junhee said, “Using the newly developed brand name Byeolbitnaerincheon and BI of Gwanak-gu Dorimcheon, we will widely promote our changing Dorimcheon as a local cultural specialization project and develop it into a nationwide cultural tourism brand.”
