[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] Melania, the First Lady of U.S. President Donald Trump, abruptly canceled her scheduled campaign appearance on the 20th (local time) just a few hours before the event.

On the day, the First Lady's office spokesperson stated that although Melania has recovered from COVID-19, she still has a cough and therefore decided not to attend President Trump's campaign rally scheduled to be held in Erie, Pennsylvania.

The event had attracted significant attention as it was to be Melania's first appearance at a Trump campaign rally since testing negative for COVID-19.

The last time Melania publicly appeared was at the first TV debate held on the 29th of last month. She had not made any official statements urging support for President Trump since the August convention.

Unlike Melania, President Trump, after testing negative for COVID-19, has been conducting a vigorous campaign tour focusing on battleground states since last week, rapidly closing the gap with Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden. On the same day, following an interview with the news program 60 Minutes to be aired on Sunday, he planned to hold a rally in Pennsylvania in the evening.

While President Trump is focusing all efforts on targeting battleground states ahead of the second TV debate on the 22nd, Democratic candidate Joe Biden, except for the 60 Minutes interview, has no official schedule this week and is concentrating on debate preparation.
