[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] An man in his 80s who received a flu vaccine in Daejeon has died, prompting health authorities to launch an epidemiological investigation.
According to Daejeon City, at around 2 p.m. on the 20th, Mr. A (82), who lives in Gwanjeo-dong, Seo-gu, was found collapsed. Mr. A was transported to the hospital by 119 emergency responders who arrived after a report, but he passed away around 3 p.m., about an hour later.
The man had received a flu vaccine injection at a local internal medicine clinic at 10 a.m. that day, and the vaccine was confirmed to be the Korean vaccine Kobax Influenza 4 PF.
According to health authorities, the vaccine was not a product suspected of reduced efficacy due to exposure to room temperature nor one in which white particles were detected.
Health authorities have dispatched epidemiologists to investigate the exact circumstances, including whether Mr. A had any underlying medical conditions.
