Samsung SDI introduced battery cells, modules, and packs at the 'InterBattery 2019' exhibition held last year. Samsung SDI is also scheduled to participate in 'InterBattery 2020' this year.
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Samsung SDI announced on the 20th that it will participate in 'InterBattery 2020' to present the future vision of battery technology.
InterBattery is the largest battery-related exhibition in Korea hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, which started in 2013 and is now in its 8th edition this year. The event will be held for three days from the 21st, with about 200 domestic and international battery and materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) companies, including Samsung SDI, expected to participate.
At this exhibition, Samsung SDI applied the theme 'The Future We Create.' In particular, it plans to showcase advanced battery technology and the eco-friendly future it will create through three key concepts: 'Green Technology,' 'Sustainable Innovation,' and 'Green Road Storytelling.'
To enhance visitors' understanding, Samsung SDI installed a large display at the top of the booth to play company introduction and vision videos, as well as Battery of Things (BoT) content. Additionally, the booth is divided into four zones centered on energy roads: small batteries, automotive batteries, energy storage system (ESS) batteries, and E-Mobility batteries, which have recently gained attention in the micro-mobility era.
Regarding solid-state batteries, Samsung SDI will showcase its current level of performance, which is higher than competitors, and reveal its development roadmap for materials and battery cells aimed at mass production by 2027, demonstrating differentiated technological capabilities.
Each zone will feature actual mass-produced batteries including small, medium (for electric vehicles), and large (for ESS) main lineups, as well as key applications equipped with these batteries such as drones, wireless earphones, foldable smartphones, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and commercial and residential ESS, leading efforts to raise awareness that batteries are part of our daily lives.
In particular, the exhibition will display real models of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) 'Range Rover Vogue' by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) equipped with Samsung SDI batteries, Daelim's electric motorcycles 'Jappy' and 'Arte,' as well as electric motorcycle charging stations.
Meanwhile, on the 22nd, Samsung SDI Planning Team Executive Director Tae-il Yoon will participate in the conference program and deliver a keynote speech titled 'Current Status and Outlook of the Secondary Battery Market' remotely, introducing growth factors of the battery market, requirements for batteries, and future technology development directions.
A Samsung SDI official stated, “The world that batteries will create in the future will be completely different from today, and Samsung SDI will take the lead in realizing a sustainable future based on differentiated battery technology.”
