Giga Wi-Fi 6 Unveiled on October 30
Supports Maximum Speed of 1.2Gbps, 40% Improvement Over Existing Routers
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] LG Uplus will launch the home Wi-Fi router 'Giga Wi-Fi 6,' which significantly improves speed and connection stability, on the 30th.
Giga Wi-Fi 6 is a Wi-Fi router that applies the latest wireless network standard set by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2019. The maximum speed is 1.2Gbps, a 40% improvement over the existing router (866Mbps). LG Uplus explained, "You can use faster Wi-Fi even in situations with many connected devices."
By applying WPA3 (Wi-Fi Protected Access 3), security has also been improved, defending against brute-force password attacks, which were a weakness of the previous WPA2.
The device rental fee is the same as the existing home Giga Wi-Fi at 3,300 KRW per month (based on a 3-year contract, including VAT). It is provided free of charge to customers subscribed to the 1G internet plan (Smart Internet, basic Wi-Fi plan) and will be expanded to customers with the 500M internet plan in the future.
Ryu Chang-soo, head of LG Uplus Home Product Group, said, "As the contactless economy accelerates, the home Wi-Fi environment is becoming more important. Through the launch of Giga Wi-Fi 6, we can provide an optimal wireless internet environment tailored to changing customer lifestyles such as online learning, telecommuting, and watching high-definition online video services (OTT)."
