From the 21st to the 4th of next month, dedicated homepage launch, career-related video streaming, live special lectures, and career counseling
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Jung-gu, Seoul (Mayor Seoyangho) will hold the 2020 Jung-gu Career Fair 'Jung-guON Career' online from the 21st to the 4th of next month.
Now in its 6th year, this fair is an event planned to provide youth with a proper understanding and exploration opportunity of careers. In previous years, it was held offline, but this year it will be operated online due to COVID-19 social distancing measures.
For this event, the district established a dedicated career fair website, broadcasting over 50 career-related videos, live special lectures, and career counseling sessions.
For this purpose, about 1,600 middle and high school students in the area who pre-registered through their schools were each assigned one ID.
Using their assigned IDs, students can freely choose to watch stories about emerging professions such as maker experts, 3D printer manufacturers, big data specialists, game planners, as well as consistently popular professions like doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, journalists, and writers during the fair period. They can also find introduction videos about workplaces in the area such as Jung-gu Office, Jungbu Fire Station, Dongdaemun Buyer Lounge, Chungmu Art Center, Euljiro Art Factory, Korean Food Culture Center, and the Korea-ASEAN Center, explaining what kind of work they do and how to get employed there.
The videos are pre-produced and include introductions to professions (workplaces), daily scenes of those professions, features of the professions answered by professionals, and messages of encouragement and support, designed to help youth in their career and job choices.
In 10 specialized fields based on 4th industrial revolution technologies such as makers, recycling, and media art, career experience kits are sent to pre-registered youth, providing opportunities to experience jobs by following the scenes in the videos.
Videos featuring major introductions, career and academic advice from seniors of seven universities including Seoul National University, Korea University, Yonsei University, Chung-Ang University, and Dongguk University, as well as life planning vision lectures by celebrities active in various fields such as creators, researchers, flight attendants, broadcast writers, and comedians, are also prepared.
For youth contemplating career choices, live career tests and counseling will be conducted in real time. Career counseling will be held in a blind one-on-one or one-to-many format for pre-registered youth, helping them sincerely discuss their career-related concerns.
A representative from the Jung-gu Career and Job Experience Support Center, which is organizing 'Jung-guON Career,' stated that they planned the online program to provide realistic and diverse career experience opportunities by recruiting various workplaces and professions based on the local community where the youth live and cooperating with related organizations.
Additionally, the center announced that it will conduct post-surveys, satisfaction evaluations, and review meetings for participating youth and teachers to check and provide feedback on the overall operation of the program.
Seoyangho, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "I am very proud of the Jung-gu youth who are doing their best in their places despite the unfamiliar environment of COVID-19," and added, "We will continue to invest in and support the future generation so that the dreams held by Jung-gu youth can be fully realized."
