[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Amid controversy over a Blue House public petition claiming that a school violence perpetrator is receiving training at the Central Police Academy to become a police officer, the police have launched an investigation to verify the facts.
On the 19th, Commissioner Kim stated at a press conference, "The Central Police Academy is internally conducting interviews and other checks regarding the trainee in question."
However, the police believe that past school violence incidents do not constitute grounds for mandatory expulsion. Commissioner Kim explained, "If the individual was prosecuted for past actions, that would be grounds for mandatory expulsion. Currently, the trainee has not been prosecuted for any past criminal cases, and the school violence itself does not appear in any official records."
Commissioner Kim added, "We will conduct interviews with the person involved and comprehensively assess related matters to take appropriate measures. Police actions will be taken within the scope of the law, and decisions will be made accordingly."
The petition titled "Please prevent school violence offenders from becoming police officers!" posted on the Blue House public petition board on the 8th of this month had garnered over 5,900 supporters as of that morning. The author of the petition claimed to have been a victim of school violence by trainee A at the Central Police Academy during middle and high school, detailing specific instances of harm. The author expressed concern, stating, "It is worrisome that a school violence offender hides their past and becomes a police officer responsible for public safety."
