Songpa-gu, First Autonomous District in Seoul to Establish a District-Run Youth Soccer Team

Expectations for Discovering and Developing Soccer Prospects in Songpa, the '88 Olympic City'

Songpa-gu, First Autonomous District in Seoul to Establish a District-Run Youth Soccer Team

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will recruit founding members for the ‘Songpa-gu Youth Soccer Team’ starting October 19 to discover and nurture South Korea’s soccer prodigies.

Songpa-gu, on the verge of establishing the first district-run youth soccer team among Seoul’s autonomous districts, plans to identify promising soccer talents and support their growth and proper character development.

A total of 40 members will be selected through a fair evaluation process. The first round of evaluation consists of physical fitness and individual skill tests, and the second round involves performance assessment through practice matches.

In particular, 20% of the members will be preferentially selected from children from low-income families, actively supporting socially disadvantaged groups.

After completing player selection, the team will officially launch with an inaugural ceremony within the year and begin full-scale activities. Regular training sessions will be held three times a week on weekdays, and the team will progressively improve skills through friendly matches, participation in various leagues, and tournaments.

The recruitment target is students in 5th grade or below attending elementary schools in Songpa-gu. Interested students can apply by visiting the district office in person or submitting an application via email (rsjeong@songpa.go.kr) from October 19 to 30.

For more details, please refer to the announcement on the Songpa-gu website under the ‘Notices’ section or contact the district office’s Culture and Sports Department.

Mayor Park Seong-su of Songpa-gu stated, “There is significance in establishing the first district-run youth soccer team among Seoul’s autonomous districts in the city of the Olympics,” adding, “We will spare no support to establish the team as a representative soccer team of our country.”
