Held via video call at 8 PM on the 26th... First-come, first-served recruitment of 90 residents wishing to participate from 9 AM on the 20th
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 19th that it will hold a non-face-to-face residents' briefing session at 8 p.m. on the 26th at 'Seoul On' on the second basement floor of the City Hall main building, ahead of facility improvement construction to expand the hydrogen supply capacity of the Yangjae Hydrogen Charging Station in Seocho-gu.
Starting at 9 a.m. on the 20th, 90 Seocho-gu residents who wish to participate in the briefing via video will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents who want to participate can fill out and submit an online pre-application form through the Seoul Metropolitan Government website, and those who cannot participate via video can watch the briefing live through the Seoul Metropolitan Government's YouTube channel, 'SeoulTube.'
As of the end of last month, the total number of hydrogen vehicles distributed in Seoul was 1,185, of which 135 vehicles were registered in Seocho-gu, accounting for 11.4% of the total. Yangjae Hydrogen Charging Station is one of the four hydrogen charging facilities in Seoul, along with Sangam, Gangdong Sangil, and the National Assembly, but it has been out of operation since January due to equipment failure.
The city aims to consider the charging demand of Seocho-gu, which has the highest number of hydrogen vehicles among autonomous districts, while also enhancing the charging convenience for the increasing number of hydrogen vehicle users.
To this end, together with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Environment, the city has prepared an improvement plan to increase the daily hydrogen storage capacity of the Yangjae Hydrogen Charging Station from the existing 120 kg to 300 kg, a 2.5-fold expansion, allowing more than 60 vehicles to be charged daily. Construction will begin next month, followed by pilot operation within this year, and normal operation is planned to start from next year.
At the briefing session, the city will introduce the facility improvement plan for the Yangjae Hydrogen Charging Station, the safety and eco-friendliness of hydrogen charging stations, and government policies to revitalize the hydrogen economy. Additionally, through discussions and Q&A sessions among experts and officials, the city plans to address residents' concerns and collect their opinions to reflect them in the project.
Jo Wan-seok, Director of the Climate Change Response Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, said, "This non-face-to-face residents' briefing session will help alleviate concerns about the safety of hydrogen charging stations and improve public perception." He added, "Through the Yangjae Hydrogen Charging Station improvement project, we aim to contribute to the expansion of eco-friendly vehicle distribution, air quality improvement, and climate change response."
