Dongjak-gu, Customized Online Safety Education for Vulnerable Groups

Customized Safety Education for Seniors, Disabled, and Children Until December

Dongjak-gu, Customized Online Safety Education for Vulnerable Groups

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will promote 'Customized Safety Education for Vulnerable Groups' until December.

Last year, the district established the nation's first age- and target-specific customized child safety education system, providing experiential safety education to about 2,000 children at 48 child facilities such as daycare centers and kindergartens.

This year, the education target has been expanded to include the elderly and people with disabilities, and to prevent COVID-19 infection, the program will be conducted online in a non-face-to-face format.

The target audience includes elderly residents, people with disabilities, and child facilities (institutions) in the area who wish to receive non-face-to-face safety education. The education will be conducted 20 times in total, with village safety instructors and participants connecting to a designated time slot on a video education platform for real-time communication.

First, safety education for the elderly and people with disabilities will cover accident prevention and response methods tailored to their characteristics, such as ▲safe elevator use ▲actions to take during fine dust occurrences ▲safe subway usage.

Child safety education will cover about 20 causes and prevention methods of safety accidents, including ▲electricity use and pedestrian safety ▲natural disasters ▲fire ▲cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

To ensure efficient education, the district limits the number of participants to 15 per session, and assigns preferred education dates on a first-come, first-served basis upon application submission.

Applications are accepted continuously until December. Institutions (facilities) wishing to participate can fill out the application form and send it to the person in charge via email (flyingsun33@dongjak.go.kr).

After completing the education, a survey will be conducted targeting the education participants and institution (facility) managers regarding instructor and class satisfaction as well as improvements for non-face-to-face safety education, and the results will be reflected in next year's safety education plan.

Yoo Ok-hyun, the Safety and Disaster Officer, said, "We will do our best to protect residents' safety from everyday risks through systematic lifecycle safety education."
