[Asia Economy Reporter Nah Han-ah] Professor Jeong Gyeong-shim of Dongyang University filed a lawsuit against a reporter who called her "one-eyed," while Kim Geun-sik, a professor at Gyeongnam National University and the People Power Party’s Seoul Songpa-byeong district committee chairman, criticized this, saying it is "obsession and revenge beyond pettiness."
On the 18th, Professor Kim said on his Facebook, "Protect the dignity of public figures, not just their rights."
He stated, "Suing a reporter for a false report or suing a YouTuber for fake news is petty and vindictive, but understandable," adding, "However, filing a criminal complaint even over a personal Facebook post goes beyond pettiness to obsession and revenge."
He further said, "If you are a politician and a public figure, you do not file complaints against people who leave malicious comments on Facebook or insult you on social media," and added, "You don’t even block friends. That is the natural order."
In the comments on this post, there were critical responses such as, "Put yourself in their shoes. If your family received such comments, could you respond calmly?" and "Whether a private individual or a public figure, acts that attack physical disabilities and wound the heart deserve condemnation."
Earlier, former Minister Cho stated on his Facebook that "On April 18, 2019, a reporter who criticized me posted on his Facebook criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration’s ruling forces, saying, 'That guy Cho Kuk’s wife with one eye is an incredible real estate expert,'" and added, "Professor Jeong Gyeong-shim of Dongyang University filed a lawsuit against MBC reporter Lee for insult and defamation by false facts."
