[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Professor Jeong Gyeong-sim of Dongyang University has filed a criminal complaint against an MBC reporter who described her as "one-eyed" and a "real estate technician."
On the 18th, Jeong's husband, former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, posted on his SNS, "Professor Jeong Gyeong-sim has filed a complaint against MBC reporter Lee for insult and defamation by false statements."
According to former Minister Cho, Lee wrote on SNS in April last year, "The one-eyed wife is an incredible real estate technician, haha." It is also known that on the 11th, Lee referred to former Minister Cho as "Jokguk."
Former Minister Cho stated, "Professor Jeong is a disabled person who lost sight in one eye due to an accident," and criticized, "Referring to a visually impaired person as 'one-eyed' is a clear contempt, disparagement, and mockery of the visually impaired."
He continued, "This reporter went beyond political criticism of me and deeply hurt and scratched Professor Jeong's wounds," adding, "Such behavior is absolutely unacceptable for a person of conscience before being a journalist."
Furthermore, former Minister Cho said, "Professor Jeong has never been an 'incredible real estate technician,'" and explained, "Professor Jeong acquired an apartment in Busan and forest land in Gangwon Province, but this was unrelated to speculation, and she never used any 'real estate techniques' in the process."
He also warned, "It is clear that this reporter stated false facts for the purpose of defaming Professor Jeong," and added, "This reporter should face legal sanctions. I do not expect an apology."
