[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Hyundai Motor Company will expand its specialized career education program for middle school students under the free semester system, "Future Automobile School Growing Dreams with Hyundai Motor (hereinafter Future Automobile School)," to elementary school creative experiential learning programs by December, aiming to nurture talent for the future automobile industry.
The Future Automobile School is an educational program developed by Hyundai Motor in 2016 as the first private company to sign a business agreement with the Ministry of Education. It is designed to help youth explore career paths through classes that enable understanding of future automobile technologies and exploration of various jobs within the industry.
Hyundai Motor has operated the Future Automobile School in 120 schools in 2016, 200 in 2017, 240 in 2018, 300 in 2019, and will continue in 300 middle schools this year. The program receives consistent praise from the education sector for its easy and fun lessons on the engineering principles of automobiles and a systematic curriculum related to mobility.
This year, to provide educational opportunities to more growing generations, the Future Automobile School has been developed for elementary school creative experiential learning programs and will be piloted in 20 elementary schools nationwide until December.
The classes, targeting 5th and 6th graders, cover themes such as ▲Future Energy ▲Eco-friendly Mobility ▲Future City Projects over a total of four sessions. Participating schools receive support including online teacher training, video lectures, teaching materials, and educational aids. Due to COVID-19, experiential learning at Hyundai factories and Hyundai Motorstudio will not be conducted.
Hyundai Motor plans to increase the number of participating elementary schools in the Future Automobile School to over 200 next year and actively share the future mobility vision envisioned by Hyundai Motor with children, the future leaders.
A Hyundai Motor official stated, "Based on the enthusiastic response from educational sites, we have expanded the Future Automobile School to elementary schools," adding, "We hope students considering their career paths will understand the automobile industry and explore future careers through the Future Automobile School."
The Future Automobile School won the highest award, the "Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Award," two years in a row in 2016 and 2017 at the Ministry of Education’s 'Free Semester System Excellent Case Contest,' and last year received the "Minister of Education Commendation for Career Education Contributors."
