"Considerable Time Passed Since New Town Relocation, but Residential Conditions and Industrial Infrastructure Remain Weak"
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] On the 15th, Lee Cheol-woo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, proposed to Kim Sa-yeol, Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, who attended the regional balanced New Deal 'Daegu-Gyeongbuk Forum' held at Daegu City Hall, to exempt the feasibility study for SOC linked to the provincial government new town and to amend the Special Act on the Relocation of the Provincial Government.
Governor Lee pointed out to Chairman Kim, "Although three provinces, Gyeongbuk, Jeonnam, and Chungnam, have relocated to new towns for a considerable period, the level of activation of the new towns in terms of residential conditions and industrial infrastructure is still insufficient."
He added, "For the new towns to settle early, the expansion of connecting roads and railway networks is most important. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an exemption clause for feasibility studies on SOC projects linked to new towns through the amendment of the 'Special Act on the Relocation of the Provincial Government,'" and actively requested support from the Balanced Development Committee.
To revitalize the Gyeongbuk Provincial Government New Town, it is urgent to pass the feasibility study for the construction of the Mungyeong~Gimcheon inland railway project, and to exempt the feasibility study for the construction projects of the Jeomchon~Andong railway linked to the inland railway, the provincial government~new airport road, and the provincial government~Andong road.
The forum held on this day, organized by the Balanced Development Committee to explore the promotion direction of the new national development strategy 'Korean New Deal' announced in July, was attended by Chairman Kim Sa-yeol, Governor Lee Cheol-woo, Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin, and various experts.
The forum began with a case presentation on 'Daegu-Gyeongbuk's Super Metropolitan Cooperation Projects' by the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Research Institute, followed by a presentation of the 'Gyeongbuk-type New Deal 3+1 Comprehensive Plan' by Kim Jang-ho, Director of Planning and Coordination Office of Gyeongsangbuk-do, and presentations by Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongsan City.
