Apple Fans Exclude Charging Adapter, Complaints of "Inconsistency" Rise
iPhone 11 Pro and Earlier Models' Adapters Not Compatible with USB-C
Design Seen as "No Innovation" by Majority... Some Satisfied with "Angular Design"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] When Apple unveiled the iPhone 12, the common opinion in communities was summarized as "no innovation." Complaints poured in over Apple excluding the charging adapter from the iPhone 12 package. There were also criticisms that the USB-C to Lightning cable is incompatible with existing chargers and that maintaining the "Lightning" port is inconsistent.
On the 14th, Apple user cafes and communities expressed dissatisfaction over Apple excluding the charger from the iPhone 12 package. Most chargers used by people who purchased iPhones two years ago support the USB-A type adapter. iPhone users who used models other than the iPhone 11 Pro must either purchase a separate charger adapter supporting USB-C type or use an old cable. The 20W USB-C type power adapter costs 20,000 won.
One user said, "The adapter to use with the USB-C type Lightning cable was only available once last year (with the iPhone 11 Pro), so it's frustrating that the adapter is missing in the iPhone 12," adding, "Environmental protection is just an excuse, and Apple seems too shameless."
Another user said, "It's welcome that there is increased interest in the environment and policies are being implemented," but also pointed out, "If they really cared about the environment, the iPhone's charging standard should have been unified to USB-C type instead of Lightning, abandoning proprietary cables to reduce waste."
There were also opinions that unifying Apple's charging ports to USB-C type would help environmental protection. A user in an iPhone cafe said, "I think it is right to sell chargers separately because there are many unused chargers at home," but added, "Standardization of charging ports for small electronics is absolutely necessary. Charging cables should also be unified by law and Apple should be forced to comply."
Many also expressed that the overall specifications and design of the iPhone 12 have not changed significantly from the previous model. One user said, "It is somewhat disappointing that the 120Hz refresh rate was removed and the battery specifications were reduced." Another user said, "Compared to the iPhone 11 Pro, the chipset has changed and some camera features have been added, but since the battery performance has decreased, I think it is better to buy the iPhone 11 Pro."
Although there was no noticeable innovation, some were satisfied with the angular design replacing the rounded edges, as well as improvements in weight and camera functions. One user said, "They solved the previous problems of thick bezels and heaviness, which made the device bulky," and added, "I feel a change compared to the launch of the iPhone XS or iPhone 11. The design is also fresh."
