[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Kim Seon-gap, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, received the Grand Prize in the Basic Local Government category at the '2020 Korea Local Autonomy Development Awards' held on the 13th at the Baekbeom Kim Gu Memorial Hall Convention Hall.

Organized by the Korea Local Autonomy Development Research Institute and sponsored by the Korean Association for Local Autonomy Studies, this event was established to select heads of organizations who contributed to the development of local autonomy and to publicize their achievements.

The evaluation categories include ▲Community Welfare Cases ▲Local Community Revitalization Cases ▲Exemplary Cases Related to Local Autonomy, selecting awardees through expert assessments of various local autonomy development cases.

Mayor Kim Seon-gap of Gwangjin-gu completed the 'Urban Planning Service for the Future Development of Gwangjin-gu' in December last year, promoting urban planning that enhances regional value, such as the final selection of the area around Guui Station for Seoul City's 'Central Urban Regeneration Project.'

He also took the lead in creating generation-tailored jobs and establishing a social economy ecosystem, contributing to sustainable job creation and revitalization of the local economy.

In addition, he launched the Gwangjin Welfare Foundation, established a comprehensive welfare network, and was recognized for his proactive and differentiated response to COVID-19, actively working for the residents in various ways.

In particular, through initiatives such as the 'Public-Private Cooperation Walking Table' and 'Cooperation Festival,' he opened communication channels with local residents, implemented awareness improvement programs to address low birth rates, and operated an idea bank, earning high evaluations for Gwangjin-gu's unique specialized policies.

Furthermore, he led nationwide first projects such as ▲Healthy Meal Leader Housewives Special Task Force 'Ikkeumi' ▲Visiting Pet Trainer ▲Support for price difference for elderly paper collectors ▲Installation of vehicle entry prohibition lines, which were selected as exemplary cases of local governments.

Mayor Kim Seon-gap of Gwangjin-gu said, “I believe this award is the result of joint efforts by the public and private sectors for the development of local autonomy in Gwangjin-gu. Going forward, based on active communication administration, I will do my best to promote practical and beneficial projects that can gain the sympathy of residents to create a happy Gwangjin for all.”
