[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] The '2020 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival' will be held on the 16th and 17th at Songdo Dalbit Festival Park.
According to Incheon City on the 13th, this year's festival, celebrating its 15th anniversary, was originally planned to be held both online and offline, but due to quarantine guidelines, it will be fully broadcast live online through KBS K-pop and Wonder K (1 THE K) YouTube channels.
Domestic performers include top-tier rock bands such as Jaurim, Guckkasten, Boohwal, Nell, Idiotape, Bom Yeoreum Gaeul Gyeoul Re:union with Bitgwa Sogeum, Galaxy Express, BewhY, Kingston Rudieska, Saesoyon, Dongyang Gojuppa, and Lee Heemun Company.
From overseas, the UK’s representative modern rock band 'Travis', releasing a new album after 4 years, and the US post-metal frontrunner 'Deafheaven' will perform.
From the 'Penta Youth Star' project for discovering and nurturing future musicians, JACKINGCONG, who won the grand prize among 299 teams, and Band Dale, the gold prize winner, will also take the Pentaport stage.
This year, for the first time, 600 online Penta Mania fans were recruited on a first-come, first-served basis. Penta Mania will use the video chat program 'Zoom' to communicate in real time, adding enthusiasm to the passionate artists' performances.
Started in 2006 and now in its 15th edition, the Incheon Pentaport Music Festival was designated as a promising festival by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for eight consecutive years from 2012 to 2019, and was selected as a Korean cultural tourism festival in 2020 and 2021.
A Pentaport Music Festival official said, "We will successfully carry out the first-ever online event and continue the reputation as Incheon’s representative music festival," adding, "We hope the online performances will soothe rock fans worldwide and bring hope and comfort to citizens and medical staff exhausted and struggling due to COVID-19."
