[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] In the 2021 academic year exam to select candidates for appointment as public (private) kindergarten, elementary school, and special school teachers in Seoul, 2,619 applicants competed for 464 public teacher positions, recording a competition rate of 5.64 to 1.

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education announced the application results for the candidate selection competitive exam on the 13th through its website.

The number of applicants for public schools decreased by 26.3% (934 people) compared to the previous year. The number of positions decreased by 427 for kindergarten, 215 for elementary, 141 for special (kindergarten), and 151 for special (elementary). The decline in applicants is analyzed to be due to a reduction of 153 positions compared to last year.

The competition rate was similar to the previous year. By category, the rates were 15.02 to 1 for kindergarten, 3.29 to 1 for elementary, 3.73 to 1 for special (kindergarten), and 3.85 to 1 for special (elementary).

For private teachers, 364 applicants competed for 11 positions, showing a competition rate of 33.09 to 1. Cross-application between public and private teacher positions is allowed, and since the number of private teacher positions is small, the competition rate is relatively higher.

The first exam for the 2021 academic year public (private) kindergarten, elementary school, and special school (kindergarten and elementary) teacher candidate selection competitive exam will be held on the 7th of next month. Specific details such as the exam location will be announced on the 30th.
