A customer participation campaign to reduce straw usage will also be conducted simultaneously.
On the 5th, McDonald's announced its new action plan and efforts to contribute to local communities and the environment under the slogan ‘Small but Big Changes for a Better World.’ The introduction of Ttukkeongi is the first implementation case following the announcement of ‘Small but Big Changes for a Better World’ and is the first attempt in the QSR (Quick Service Restaurant) industry to reduce the use of plastic straws.
McDonald's developed Ttukkeongi as a cute character so that customers of various ages, both male and female, can easily and enjoyably use it, and is encouraging customer participation activities to reduce plastic straw usage. Through an animation featuring the Ttukkeongi character, the campaign message ‘Let’s reduce disposable plastic waste to save the Earth’ is delivered, and a customer participation hashtag event will be held on the company’s Instagram until the 31st.
Plastic straws will be available in stores during the promotional period for Ttukkeongi usage, but as the use of Ttukkeongi spreads, the number of plastic straws will be gradually reduced, and starting next year, plastic straws will be provided only upon customer request. Beginning with this, McDonald's plans to switch plastic packaging materials such as plastic bags, forks, and knives to packaging made from renewable, recycled, or certified raw materials by 2025.
