[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] U.S. President Donald Trump, who was hospitalized after testing positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and returned to the White House after three days, stated his intention to resume his presidential campaign over the weekend despite coughing with a hoarse voice.
On the 8th (local time), President Trump said in a phone interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, "I'm feeling good. Really good. I think I'm perfect." However, while responding to questions, he cleared his throat at least twice and coughed with a hoarse voice, leading to observations that his health has not yet fully recovered.
President Trump said, "I will hold a campaign rally in Florida on Saturday night (the 10th) and return, then campaign in Pennsylvania the following night." He added, "By then, I will be better. I want to hold a campaign rally even tonight."
However, when asked whether he had taken a COVID-19 test since his diagnosis, he remained silent twice. Local media express concerns that if President Trump campaigns without fully recovering, it could lead to further spread of COVID-19.
Earlier, Dr. Sean Conley, President Trump's physician, announced through the White House that "the treatment process has been completed" and "official duties can resume starting Saturday."
In the interview, President Trump strongly criticized Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden for not revealing his stance on the Supreme Court restructuring plan, calling it "rude." The Supreme Court restructuring plan refers to a proposal included in a bill introduced by former U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1937 but rejected, which aims to increase the number of Supreme Court justices from the current nine to fifteen.
