[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] Choi Junhyuk, CEO of Alpha Asset Management and husband of actress Jeon Ji-hyun, has become the largest shareholder of the company. CEO Choi inherited the shares from Chairman Choi Gon, who was the largest shareholder of the company.

According to the Financial Investment Association on the 6th, Chairman Choi Gon disclosed that he gifted 70% (1.4 million shares) of his shares to his son, CEO Choi Junhyuk, on the 5th. The date of the gift was the 30th of last month.

As a result of this gift, Chairman Choi's shareholding ratio decreased to 30% (600,000 shares), and CEO Choi holds 70% of the shares, becoming the largest shareholder.

Born in 1981, CEO Choi is the second son of Chairman Choi. He is also the maternal grandson of the late hanbok designer Lee Young-hee, and his mother, Lee Jung-woo, was also active as a fashion designer.

CEO Choi worked as the head of the derivatives division at Bank of America Seoul branch, a global investment bank. He then moved to Alpha Asset Management as vice president in April last year, and became CEO in February this year. CEO Choi became the largest shareholder within about one and a half years of working at Alpha Asset Management.

Meanwhile, CEO Choi became publicly known when he married Jeon Ji-hyun in April 2012. The couple attracted attention by appearing on TV Chosun variety show 'Life Documentary My Way' and JTBC's 'Entertainment Special'.

The two reportedly developed a romantic relationship after being friends since childhood. Regarding this, Jeon Ji-hyun mentioned her husband during the production presentation of the SBS drama 'My Love from the Star' in 2013.

At that time, Jeon Ji-hyun said, "I received a lot of support and help from my husband. Without him, whatever I did would not have been easy," and added, "In the past, when we were dating, I used to wear a hat pulled down low, but now I walk proudly." The couple currently has two sons.

Meanwhile, Alpha Asset Management was established in July 2002 as a comprehensive asset management company. As of the end of last month, its assets under management amounted to approximately 474.1 billion KRW.
