[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On the first trading day after the Chuseok holiday, both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets rose more than 1%, continuing their upward trend for the fourth consecutive trading day.
On the 5th, the KOSPI closed at 2,358.00, up 30.11 points (1.29%) from the previous day. The KOSPI started the day higher, remained slightly firm in the early session, but after 10 a.m., the gains gradually expanded, closing above the 2,350 level.
Looking at trading trends by participant, institutions and foreign investors led the index rise with net purchases of 387.5 billion KRW and 169.6 billion KRW, respectively. Conversely, individual investors net sold 548.8 billion KRW.
By sector, transportation equipment (4.24%), steel and metals (3.85%), and machinery (3.63%) rose, while pharmaceuticals (-0.22%) and services (-0.07%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Kia Motors surged 7.68%, Hyundai Motor rose 4.76%, LG Household & Health Care increased 3.52%, Hyundai Mobis gained 2.61%, and Kakao went up 1.65%. Meanwhile, Celltrion (-1.17%), SK Hynix (-0.95%), and Samsung Biologics (-0.72%) fell.
On the KOSPI market that day, 647 stocks rose, including 2 stocks hitting the upper price limit, 211 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower price limit, and 49 stocks remained unchanged.
The KOSDAQ index also rose more than 1%, continuing its recent recovery. The KOSDAQ started higher, showed mixed trends in the early session, but after 10 a.m., gains expanded, closing at 858.39, up 10.24 points (1.21%) from the previous day.
By trading participant, institutions and individual investors net bought 22.7 billion KRW and 7.2 billion KRW, respectively. Foreign investors net sold 2.8 billion KRW.
By sector, metals (3.39%), computer services (3.06%), and publishing and media replication (2.83%) rose, while entertainment and culture (-2.47%), construction (-0.72%), and other manufacturing (-0.32%) declined.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, Seegene rose 7.45%, MedPacto 1.93%, SK Materials 1.54%, KMW 1.53%, and CJ ENM 1.34%. Conversely, Kakao Games (-3.56%), HL Biopharma (-2.12%), and Celltrion Pharm (-1.06%) declined.
On the KOSDAQ market that day, 943 stocks rose, including 6 stocks hitting the upper price limit, 341 stocks fell with no stocks hitting the lower price limit, and 83 stocks remained unchanged.
