Dongjak District Launches Future Education Project for Parents

[Asia Economy, reporter Park Jongil] Dongjak District (District Mayor Lee Changwoo) is launching the "Future Education Project for Parents," targeting families, including parents whose children reside and attend school in the district.

This program is part of the "2020 Dongjak Innovation Education District Project" and aims to help parents gain a proper understanding of education by allowing them to directly experience future-oriented education linked to school curricula. It is also designed to strengthen parents' core competencies for the future.

Organized by the Parent Committee of the Dongjak Innovation Education District, the program consists of two parts: ▲Software Education for Parents and ▲Family Maker Education.

First, the software education program, titled "Computer, Please Help My Child with Math!", will be held for approximately 240 parents living in the district. It will take place eight times from October 13 to November 4.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the classes will be conducted online using the real-time video conferencing tool ZOOM. Kits for hands-on activities will be delivered in advance.

Main topics include ▲Principles and ethics of artificial intelligence systems and ▲Practice sessions linked to the AI curriculum.

Applications are open until October 21. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis, with 30 participants per session, using a Naver form (bit.ly/소프트웨어교육).

Additionally, the family maker education program, "Maker Home Party," will be held for 100 families, each consisting of three members including a youth aged 11 to 16 residing in the district.

Applications are accepted from October 8 to 22 via KakaoTalk Open Chat (bit.ly/가족메이커사전설명회). The program will be conducted from October 31 to November 8, with sessions divided by age group.

On October 8 at 10:00 a.m., a preliminary briefing session will be held via ZOOM for one representative from each family, where participants will receive basic training on how to create a "Maker Home Party."

The main event, Maker Home Party, will provide families with the opportunity to create original works equipped with AI functions that reflect social needs, using coding sensor board kits distributed in advance and their own creative ideas.

The event will be held as a non-face-to-face online gathering using ZOOM. After the training, families will share photos and videos of their creations in group chat bands.

For more details, please contact the Education Policy Division.

Jung Jongrok, head of the Education Policy Division, said, "We hope that the Future Education Project for Parents will provide children and youth, who are the leaders of the future, with the opportunity to become 'change-makers' themselves. We encourage all interested parents to actively participate in this project, where you can learn about future education together with your children."
