Eight Joseon Royal Tomb Forest Trails Including Donggureung and Gwangneung Opened Rest Area Forest in Taereung, Seoul

Eight forest trails around the Joseon Royal Tombs will open on the 6th. The Cultural Heritage Administration's Royal Tombs and Historic Sites Headquarters announced on the 4th that visits to the royal tomb forest trails, where pine trees and maple trees harmonize, will be allowed until November 29.

The trails include the 3,200m trail from Hwireung to Gyeongneung to the nursery in Donggureung, Guri (Japanese cornel and zelcova trees); the 350m trail from Geumcheon Bridge to Jeongjagak in Gwangneung, Namyangju (fir and dogwood trees); the 600m trail from Hongsalmun gate to the office in Sareung, Namyangju (pine and maple trees); the 1,800m trail from Taereung to Gangneung in Seoul (pine and oak trees); the 600m Cheonjangsan trail in Uireung, Seoul (pine and oak trees); the 1,700m Neungchim Dullegil trail in Jangneung, Paju (pine and Japanese cornel trees); the 1,900m forest trail behind Gongneung in Samneung, Paju (pine and oak trees); and the 3,900m trail from Yungneung to Geonneung in Hwaseong (pine and oak trees). All have recently been improved with native vegetation environments, convenience facilities, and safety features to enhance visitor comfort.

The opening hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in October, and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in November. Visitors must practice measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as maintaining a distance of at least 2 meters between visitors, following one-way paths within the forest trails, and wearing masks when using multi-use facilities.

The royal tomb forest trails offer lush forest scenery within the city. The phytoncides, natural antibacterial agents, can boost physical and mental immunity. According to the National Institute of Forest Science, walking 2 km on a forest trail for 30 minutes can reduce negative emotions such as depression and fatigue by more than 70%.
