Since a confirmed case was reported among attendees of the Chilgok Wild Ginseng (Jangnoe-sam) business briefing on the 11th of last month, confirmed cases have been rapidly increasing, with 36 people testing positive within 20 days. As of the morning of the 1st, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in the Pohang area is 101. This is the third highest number among the 23 cities and counties in Gyeongbuk, following Gyeongsan (661 cases) and Cheongdo (146 cases).

According to Pohang City and Gyeongbuk Province on the 1st, a man in his 30s residing in Nam-gu, Pohang, was classified as a contact of a confirmed case and tested, receiving confirmation of infection on the same day. It is presumed that this man was infected by a peer acquaintance who was confirmed positive the previous day.

The 30-year-old (Pohang case number 99) and 50-year-old (Pohang case number 100) confirmed cases reported the previous day are believed by health authorities to have been infected by the Pohang Steel Industrial Complex employee, case number 95 (a man in his 40s).

Meanwhile, as of midnight on the 1st, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in Gyeongbuk is 1,514. Including the 30-year-old confirmed on the 1st, the total is 1,515.
