Gurye-gun Secures 332.4 Billion Won for Flood Damage Recovery Budget... A Moment to Breathe

[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Mi-seok] On the 30th, Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it secured a total of 332.4 billion KRW in special grants and national/provincial funds for flood damage recovery caused by last month's heavy rains.

This achievement was made possible as the county head and many residents appealed to the President, Prime Minister, ruling and opposition party leaders, and National Assembly member Seo Dong-yong about the region's difficulties, continuously requesting support from the central government.

So far, the county has promptly provided disaster relief funds to affected agricultural, livestock, and forestry sectors as well as flooded households, and is making every effort for flood damage recovery.

The special grants secured this time will enable the swift implementation of services such as damage investigation through loss adjusters, maintenance of the Cultural and Arts Center and Comprehensive Social Welfare Center, and self-recovery projects that were at risk of delay due to financial difficulties in the county.

In addition, through an agreement with the Korea Energy Foundation, the county provided wallpaper and flooring support (worth approximately 3.3 million KRW per household), disaster relief funds from the county and central government (3 million KRW per household), Hope Bridge flood relief donations, free repairs and 30% discounts on home appliances from Samsung and LG Electronics, free temporary housing facilities for disaster victims (50 units), and through an agreement with IBK, repairs of the 5-day market shops. Public and private sectors worked together to support affected residents.

County head Kim Soon-ho said, "It pains me to think of residents staying in evacuation facilities during Chuseok, a time to spend happy moments with family," and added, "We will do our best to help affected residents return to their daily lives as soon as possible."

He continued, "The already secured budget will be used to further upgrade convenience facilities and infrastructure for residents and contribute to revitalizing the local economy," he added.
