Pompeo, "Expecting Productive Talks During Visit to Korea" ... Scheduled Visit on July 7-8 (Comprehensive)

Visit Schedule to Japan, Mongolia, and Korea
Attending 'Quad' Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Japan
Possible Pressure on Korea to Join Quad

[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced on the 29th (local time) that he will visit South Korea on July 7-8.

According to the State Department, Secretary Pompeo will visit Japan, Mongolia, and South Korea over a five-day period from July 4 to 8.

On the 6th, Secretary Pompeo will visit Japan to attend the "Quad" meeting attended by the foreign ministers of the United States, Japan, India, and Australia, and will discuss mutual interests with his Japanese counterpart.

The schedule during his visit to South Korea has not been disclosed. However, it is known that he will hold talks with high-ranking officials, and given the continuous demand for South Korea's participation in the "Asian NATO," the Quad, there is a strong possibility that discussions on this matter will take place.

Secretary Pompeo mentioned on his Twitter, "I look forward to visiting Tokyo, Ulaanbaatar, and Seoul," adding, "I expect to have productive talks with my counterparts as well as at the Quad foreign ministers' meeting."
