Emart Will Not Hold New Graduate Recruitment This Year... First Time in 27 Years Since Establishment

[Asia Economy Reporter Seungjin Lee] Emart, the number one company in the large-scale mart industry, has decided not to conduct open recruitment for new college graduate employees this year. This is the first time in Emart's 27-year history that it has not selected new college graduate recruits.

Shinsegae Group announced that it will begin open recruitment for new college graduate employees starting on the 29th. The recruiting companies include 11 affiliates: Shinsegae (Department Store), Shinsegae International, SSG.com, Shinsegae Food, Shinsegae Construction, Shinsegae Simon, Shinsegae Property, Shinsegae L&B, Starbucks Coffee Korea, Shinsegae I&C, and Casamia.

On the other hand, some affiliates such as Emart and Emart24 will not participate in this open recruitment. In particular, this is the first time since Emart's founding in 1993 that it has not conducted new employee recruitment.

Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), Emart posted an operating loss of 47.4 billion KRW in the second quarter on a consolidated basis, and the fact that there are virtually no new store openings this year seems to have influenced this decision.

However, a Shinsegae Group official explained, "Companies based on stores conduct occasional recruitment whenever they open new stores," adding, "The overall recruitment scale of the group is similar to previous years."
