[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] A current mixed martial arts fighter has filed a police complaint against the operator of Digital Prison for defamation.

According to the police on the 29th, the Yeonje Police Station in Busan recently received a complaint from Kim Do-yoon (30), a martial arts athlete and YouTuber, requesting punishment of the Digital Prison operator on charges of defamation. The police plan to transfer the case to the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency, which is conducting a focused investigation by consolidating cases related to Digital Prison. The investigation into Digital Prison has been handled by the Daegu Police Cyber Investigation Unit since May.

Previously, Kim suffered damage when his personal information was disclosed on Digital Prison due to having the same name as a person involved in the 'Miryang sexual assault case.' Digital Prison soon admitted the mistake, apologized, and deleted the personal information, but false information had already spread. Kim said, "After hearing the news that the first operator of Digital Prison was arrested recently, I decided to file a complaint," adding, "I hope no more innocent victims like me will suffer."

Earlier, Professor Chae Jung-ho of the Department of Psychiatry at Catholic University Medical School, who suffered the same damage as Kim, also filed a complaint against the site operator. The bereaved family of a university student who expressed grievances over the disclosure of personal information on Digital Prison and subsequently took their own life also submitted a complaint to the police. Digital Prison publicly apologized and admitted mistakes to Kim and Professor Chae through a notice, but the personal information of the university student remains posted.

A Daegu Police Agency official said, "We plan to investigate Kim's case as soon as it is transferred," adding, "If the operator is repatriated to Korea, we will comprehensively investigate the charges listed in the complaint as well as any accomplice involvement." The police are currently taking steps to repatriate him, and the repatriation could take place as early as the beginning of next month.

The 30-year-old male operator, identified as Mr. A, was arrested by the police on the 22nd in Vietnam through international cooperation with the International Criminal Police Organization (ICPO/Interpol). Since March of this year, Mr. A is suspected of creating and operating the Digital Prison website and Instagram accounts, unlawfully posting personal information of suspects and related persons involved in digital sex crimes, murder, child abuse, and other cases.

Although the first operator was arrested, Digital Prison continues to operate under a second operator. On the 25th, just two days after the Korea Communications Standards Commission blocked access to the site, Digital Prison changed its address and resumed activities. The Commission decided again the day before to block access to the new site.
