[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Daejeon city government will fully support the interest on student loans for local university students this year.
The city announced on the 29th that it will cover all interest accrued in 2020 on student loans from the Korea Student Aid Foundation.
The support targets university students who are currently enrolled (including those on leave) at universities in Daejeon with a registered address in Daejeon as of this date, or students enrolled (including those on leave) at universities outside Daejeon whose direct ascendants have been registered residents in Daejeon for over one year.
The support includes both tuition and living expenses and applies regardless of the type of student loan, whether it is a general student loan or an income-contingent loan. Those who have previously received interest support are also eligible to apply.
Applications can be submitted through the city’s website from the 1st to the 31st of next month. Once selected as a beneficiary, the city will process repayment to the Korea Student Aid Foundation’s loan repayment account by December, and notify the recipients individually via text message.
For more details, refer to the announcement posted on the city’s website or contact the Korea Student Aid Foundation through their website or by phone.
Previously, the city supported 2,212 people with a total of 270 million KRW through the student loan interest support program last year.
