[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 28th, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a phone call with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Hussein Al Safadi to discuss cooperation measures regarding the response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and the selection of the next Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).


Both ministers acknowledged that their two countries recently faced a new challenge with the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and agreed to overcome difficulties together through close quarantine cooperation.


They shared the importance of securing sufficient COVID-19 vaccines and their equitable distribution and agreed to actively participate in the international community's efforts.


Support for Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee was also requested. Minister Kang emphasized that Trade Minister Yoo Myung-hee, who advanced to the second round of the next WTO Director-General selection, is an expert with extensive trade experience spanning from developing to developed countries, and requested Jordan's support. In response, Minister Al Safadi highly evaluated Minister Yoo's outstanding capabilities.


Meanwhile, the two ministers exchanged views on the Middle East situation, including the normalization of relations between the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Israel, and Bahrain and Israel, and agreed to maintain close communication to ensure practical cooperation progresses in various fields.
