[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] Korea Gas Corporation will install hydrogen·LNG combined charging stations that can simultaneously charge hydrogen passenger cars and hydrogen and liquefied natural gas (LNG) freight trucks at three major highway truck rest areas nationwide.
Gas Corporation announced that on the 28th, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for joint cooperation to install hydrogen·LNG combined charging stations at the Korea Expressway Corporation headquarters in Gimcheon, Gyeongbuk.
The hydrogen·LNG combined charging station is the world's first charging station model that can charge vehicles using hydrogen as fuel, such as passenger cars, freight trucks, and buses, as well as vehicles using LNG as fuel, such as freight trucks and buses.
Under this MOU, Gas Corporation will be responsible for the construction and operation of the combined charging stations, while the Expressway Corporation, together with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will provide the site for the charging stations and support funds for building hydrogen charging stations.
The two organizations will first begin reviewing projects to build three combined charging stations and proceed with practical discussions. In addition to these three locations, they plan to actively cooperate to build additional combined charging stations in the future.
A Gas Corporation official said, "We will actively align with the government's hydrogen economy revitalization and green mobility expansion policies and focus our capabilities on infrastructure construction, such as building 30 hydrogen·LNG combined charging stations at major logistics hubs nationwide by 2025."
