Commemorating SDGs Adoption Day... Video Comment Event Proposing Action Pledges

KOICA Releases Promotional Video for SDGs Sketchbook Challenge

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency) announced that it has released the ‘SDGs Sketchbook Challenge’ video to commemorate the adoption day of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and is conducting the ‘SDGs Pledge Event,’ where if the video reaches 500,000 views by October 19, KOICA will carry out an SDGs action pledge proposed by the public.

The SDGs are 17 goals and 169 detailed targets in the economic, social, and environmental fields that the world promised to achieve by 2030 for sustainable development, unanimously adopted at the United Nations General Assembly on September 25, 2015. KOICA held the ‘SDGs Sketchbook Challenge’ for eight days from September 10 to 17 to inform the public about the meaning and value of the SDGs and encourage more people to participate as global citizens in realizing the SDGs.

The ‘SDGs Sketchbook Challenge’ is an interactive online event where participants select one SDGs goal they want to promote, write it on a sketchbook or A4 paper, then film a witty video introducing it and share it on social media. The event saw participation from 120 members of KOICA’s public supporters WeKO 2nd term, KOICA employees, and the general public.

To commemorate the SDGs adoption day, KOICA released a promotional video on the official WeKO YouTube channel on the 28th, compiling the ‘SDGs Sketchbook Challenge’ participation videos. At the same time, KOICA launched the ‘SDGs Pledge Event,’ inviting viewers to comment on what they want to practice together with KOICA to achieve the SDGs.

If the video reaches 500,000 views by the event deadline of October 19, KOICA plans to select one comment from the ‘SDGs Pledge Event’ and implement it together with WeKO 2nd term. Additionally, 500 participants will be selected by lottery to receive SDGs commemorative gifts.

Song Jin-ho, Director of the Social Value Management Headquarters, said, “We thank everyone who participated in the ‘SDGs Sketchbook Challenge’ to reflect on the meaning of the SDGs and raise public interest,” adding, “Together with KOICA’s public supporters WeKO, we will continue the campaign so that even amid the COVID-19 situation, the public can actively engage with global issues and international development cooperation (ODA).”
